Britain is to allow one of its intelligence agencies to monitor all phone calls, texts, emails and online activities in the country

“The proposed legislation could reflect the U.S. Patriot Act, controversially introduced six weeks after September 11 in 2001, to expand the government’s authority to monitor the communications activity of its citizens.”

Why the fuck would any government model legislation after the fucking horrendous Patriot Act? When fear and paranoia dominate a governing body/it’s populace, that’s when the wonderful rights that were a direct result of Enlightenment thinkers are stripped away. That is what happened in the US post-9/11 and is not something that should be emulated by any other nation. Ever.
